COWBOYS TO TRAIN IN OXNARD IN 2008

The Dallas Cowboys announced today that the team’s training camp for the 2008 season will be held in Oxnard, California at the city’s fields that are located adjacent to the Residence Inn River Ridge on West Vineyard Avenue. Following the 2008 camp, the team will return to San Antonio for the 2009 camp and the future years that are a part of the Cowboys’ long term contract with the City of San Antonio.

“We were aware of the potential for this development when we signed our current agreement with San Antonio,” said Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones. “We explored all of the options for the upcoming season and determined that Oxnard was a very good solution. San Antonio remains the long term home to Dallas Cowboys training camp, and we are grateful to the City of Oxnard for welcoming us back for 2008.”

The Cowboys partnership with the City of San Antonio and the Alamodome extends through at least the 2011 camp. A prior scheduling commitment at the Alamodome for the summer of 2008 brought about the need for an alternative location for the team’s training camp this year.

Dallas held its training camp at the Alamodome last summer as the first year of a long term partnership with the City of San Antonio. Prior to that, the team held training camp at the Oxnard location from 2004 to 2006.

The exact starting date for the 2008 camp has yet to be determined pending the NFL’s release of the Cowboys preseason schedule. The reporting date will be during the week of July 21 to July 25.

  1. Approx. when does camp start?

  2. I don’t have an exact date, and that might not be known for another month or two, but it usually starts sometime between July 20th-30th.

And more towards the later part of that time period.

  7. Ron,

Thanks for the comment and question, but I answered one of them just above, the start date hasn’t been confirmed. Watching practice is free, parking most likely won’t be.

  15. I am very disappointed that the 2008 Training Camp is going to be in California. Last time I checked the Cowboys were a Texas team; and last time I checked there are hardly any Cowboys in Cali. At least the Cowboy Organization could have put the 2008 Training Camp in Texas… HELLO, this is the home state for the team! I am VERY disappointed in the Organization for doing this! Which ever VP of the Organization thought of this idea, should be… Oh, but wait he/she must be from California… Right?? I just can’t believe it is in Cali… Come on, what the HELL are ya’ll thinking. It could have at least been somewhere in Texas or at least another SOUTHERN state… But Cali… Oh what are ya’ll thinking!!!!

  16. Yep what could they be thinking??

Better get Jerry a new skull cap. While your at it, get one for all the players too, who are almost all in favor of having the camp in Cali.

  17. Obviously, the person complaining about Cowboys camp in California. Does not know very much about the history of Dallas Cowboys Training Camps. The Cowboys trained in Thousand Oaks for over 20 years during the Tex Schramm regime. And also, as we all know. The Dallas Cowboys are America’s team, so it is perfectly fine training anywhere in these United States.

  18. Thank you Dallas Cowboys organization for having your team practice in the state of california. We have alot of fans that come from as far away Sacramento down to San Diego. You all must not be true Cowboy fans if you can not support your team. Maybe the cowboys would like to enjoy the weather in California that Texas does not have. They have to practice and California weather is the best. No matter where the cowboys practice or play you should always support your team.

  19. One of their biggest fans (me!) is really glad they are coming to Cali. I am going to see them and from what I have heard they have plenty of fans show up. Remember they are America’s Team! Plus, the weather out here is cooler, at least much less humid. All you other Texans can go see them next year, while I still have to live in CA (thanks to the Marine Corps)..

  20. iam so glad that the dallas cowboys are in cali for training camp and having a game in san dieago iam 2 hours away for oxnard and 4hrs away from dieago i have been a cowboy fan for 40yrs and i love jesus amen.

  21. Quit your complaining. CA is where its at. Ever think for a second that they enjoy being away from you TX rednecks? How many Cowboys are actually from TX? TX used to be the football meca. Not so much any more.

  22. Well they couldn’t have put it in better place… There are so many Cowboys fans in California and especially in Oxnard. But you really wouldn’t know that unless you lived here. I’m excited!!! I will be there as many of the days that I can, and I have family driving from up north to be here as well!!! Does anyone know if there is a website with the schedule? Last time they were here they had one with times and events.

  23. I’m glad dallas is back in cal. We are as big or not bigger fan. I’ve been a fan for almost 32 years, ever since i was in the 6th grade. I’ve been through the good and the bad. so last thing i got to say is
    SUPERBOWL BABY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. For those CB fans who have or haven’t been to Oxnard, it’s really a great experience. I’ve attended each year the Boys came. And bring your little ones if you really want autographs. These are superstars so the kids come first. Expect to see hundreds of people from all around the country. There’s not a boring moment especially when the pads are on. WARNING! Most are not truly fans, just pretenders. So for us who are, try not to hurt their ego with questions past 2003. This is LA and these guys take everthing serious, even if they don’t know the answer. But hey come out and have a wonderful time. Prepair to get a tan unless you are like me and born with one(haha). Oh yeah the hotels fill up pretty quick in the first week so make your reservations early. Well hope to see you guys and girls on the 25th of July. I’ll be their with my daughter wearing #33 Dorsett throw back and she’ll be wearing #22 Emmitt tb. True-Blue for life. Live by the Star/Die by the Star!

  25. Cali is the place to be……….the BOYS just need to focus and play ball! They got $$$$$$$ from Jerry, now let them earn it. This could be the year!

  26. Hi Frank, great anology to perhaps what has become a trend to CB fans. The brighter picture I believe is not just the money, Jerry is a brilliant business man as well. He’s not only prepairing for this season, but he’s given us a glance of the future by investing in hall of fame players. Remember, we carried 13 players into the probowl last season. These present days with free agency that’s unheard of. And fans don’t realize that this is the second season that Romo is recognize as our primary QB(yes sir just his second). We have a offensive line that barley allows 1.3 sacks a game. A young tight end (Witten) who has capture the respect from opposing deffensives. Clayton who no dout will develope the hands of a Alvin Harper without the speed. And the initals T.O speaks for itself. We have one of the youngest deffensives in the NFL. Ware and Ellis are the 2 most dangerous outside linbakers the league has ever seen. Our linebackers stop every credible running back from Peterson(Min), to Westbrook(Phi), to Portis(Was). Our secondary moblized some of the dominant receivers from all 8 divisions both NFC and AFC. The special team were solders in the mist when need be. Oh yeah, did Nick Folk make a house hold name over night? So Frank you are right, let then earn their money but in the mean time, they’ve earn respect. Like they say in dominos, “All money aint good money” but for Jerry, “All teams aint the Cowboys”. See you in Oxnard bro. True-Blue for life. Live by the Star/Die by the Star.

  27. Hi all,

Can someone, living locally, please provide near-by lodging information, parking info at the training facility, and any other pertinent information a fan might need.

Thank you in advance. Appreciate any help. See ya at the fence!!
