Smoaky, i sent you 4 emails today did you get them, here is Pro Football Weekly post draft review and my views of why i think the cowboys are going to be good again this year,
Pro football Weekly Post Review, and my thoughts
It took me awhile to write this off of pro football weekly post draft so bear with me smoaky and guys;
The Cowboys have plans for Pacman, but will be Patient. The first order of business for the Cowboys will be to hear what the commissioner?s office rules on CB-punt returner Pacman Jones and whether he will be eligible to play for the Cowboys this season. Another factor is when he might be able to join the team. DT Tank Johnson for instance was allowed ot practice with the the team before joining the Cowboys active roster coming off a suspension, a similar situation might be allowed for Jones, though there has been no word yet. But if he is cleared, the Cowboys wont just turn Pacman loose. They know he hasn?t played in a year, so they will work him into the rotation slowly. But they think he has the potential, at some point, to be an impact player on defense, either as a right corner, or as a nickel back to start, and on special teams, as a kickoff (pacman has never returned a kickoff for a touchdown, so that?s where Felix Jones and Mike Jenkins comes to mind for me) and punt returner-(this is where Pacman is deadly).
He also might be tried, as he had been occasionally in Tennessee, on offense as a trick play specialist. I bring this up to what someone said a few weeks ago. Not sure if any of you remember Frank Whcheck, not sure how to spell his name, but he was a TE and good fullback on occasions for the Titans. He said, your getting a good player, even better in his mind than Deion Sanders and Hester ever were. He also said that he wouldn?t be surprised if the Cowboys tried Pacman in the slot a few times, that he would be deadly. Do any of you remember when Deion Sanders played for the Cowboys in 95, he played WR some and in the super bowl against the Steelers that the Cowboys won, Deion Sanders caught a big deep pass. That?s where I point to what the Cowboys staff told T O after the season was over, they said something like this, when we the cowboys get finished with what we are going to do this offseason and in the draft, the cowboys offense compared to the patriots offense like you, will make you say WOW!
On to the drafted rookies,
1. Felix Jones RB Arkansas 22
1. Mike Jenkins CB South Florida 25
2. Martellus Bennett TE Texas A & M 61
3. Traded away for a future pick
4. Tashard Choice RB Georgia Tech 122
5. Orlando Scandrick CB Boise ST. 143
6. Erik Walden OLB Middle Tennessee 167
Owning the 22nd and 28th picks, you knew Jerry Jones would make something happen on Draft Day. And although he didn?t land Arkansas RB Darren McFadden.
Jones? desire to do so was perhaps the worst kept secret these past months, Jones did have what appears to be a fruitful haul. He stood pat as # 22, landing McFadden?s college teammate and backfield partner, Felix Jones RB. Marion Barber is expected to move in the starting lineup, but Jones will be counted on heavily as a complement and change of pace. He has electric skills in the open field, even if he his a big straight-linish and could factor in the return game, (this is where one guy posted about our special teams, and where we got killed in them, even the playoff game, that these drafted players will make a big difference in our special teams play. I don?t remember our new special teams coach, some of the Cowboy players were saying that they couldn?t understand some of his play calling, so maybe that?s why probably we got a new special teams coach. Now, not only did we get some good special teams players, even Wade Phillips said so, but this special teams coach, one of his strengths was improving special teams, he did that in the 2000 year, when he was special teams coach for the Giants, later he went to Oregon and improved the special teams players there. SO LOOKOUT, OUR SPECIAL TEAMS WILL BE AWESOME THIS YEAR, WITH THE LIKES OF FELIX JONES, MIKE JENKINS AND PACMAN ON PUNT AND KICKOFF RETURNS AND PUNT RETURNS, SCANDRICK WILL BE THE PUNT BLOCKER ON PUNTS AND FIELD GOAL ATTEMPTS, WHILE BENNETT WITH HIS HUGE SIZE AND SPEED WILL COVER KICKOFFS, ETC, ALONG WITH CHOICE WITH HIS BIG HEART. SO, TAKE IT TO THE BANK, OUR SPECIAL TEAMS WILL BE AWESOME THIS YEAR.
Back to pro football weekly, The Cowboys slid up three spots, in front of Houston, to guarantee they landed South Florida CB Mike Jenkins, another apple of Jerry Jones? eye. Jenkins has shown flashes of brilliance as a cover corner and also has good return skills, but he wasn?t consistent and needs to mature. The Cowboys landed a replacement for backup TE Anthony Fasano, who was traded to Miami. Some scouts rate Texas A & M Martellus Bennett as the top talent at his position. He has the body of a basketball forward, (this I comment on what Wade Phillips said, he likes TE?s because they can find the seams on routes due to playing basketall, where regular TE?s just go to the spot, and nothing but like basketball players do like the Chargers when they got their all pro TE basketball player in Antonio Gates. Anyway, pro football weekly says Bennett could develop into a good blocker, but he is young and perhaps a few years away. I think Bennett will blossom under John Garrett, maybe have an impact on the Cowboys like when Shockey was drafted by the Giants the first year and had an impact on the Giants.
Pro Football Weekly says, the Cowboys landed a potential steal in Round Four in RB Tashard Choice, a hyper competitive winner who has no special traits other than his desire. (From what I read and heard, I think Choice will surprise us fans and even the Cowboys players and staff, due to his last year in college, he was playing hurt, so now finally healthy, he will have a little more speed, and I think with his big heart, and love for the Cowboys, he grew up being a big Cowboy fan, he will be a big player on special teams. And if Barber does tire out some, the Cowboys after Barber runs over them, and Felix Jones runs around them, Choice will bury them with his bruising style too). Pro football weekly says again what I point to, He will lead the special teams units and eventually could replace Barber, I don?t think he will replace Barber, I think Jerry Jones will sign him sometime during training camp.
CB Orlando Scandrick has character issues, although his abililty isn?t , (only thing I found on his character issues is his attitude), questioned. He will have to fight hard to earn a roster spot, but I don?t think so, where Scandrick will excel is in special teams as a gun runner with his fast speed, and he is super at blocking field goals and punts, that?s where he will come in, till he learns. Wade Phillips said that the future for Scandrick is next year, just like when the Chargers underneath Phillips as defensive coordinator, they brought along Cromatie along slowly, and the next year, we saw what he did last year, make all pro. Middle Tennesse State?s Erik Walden projects to rush linebacker(but I heard the Cowboys might be thinking of moving him inside, and mark it down, I say it here first, Walden, might be our future fullback, he has a quick first step, just like Ware, and you guys remember Hoyte, the Cowboys converted him over from linebacker to fullback, and he was pretty good the first couple of years, before Hoyte got injured.
Finally, what I could find in pro football weekly in their coverage on Cowboys, they talked about Searching for a game breaker. They mentioned 10 players, and they had Felix Jones at # 4. 4. Cowboys RB Felix Jones, with Julius Jones gone, the Cowboys needed a replacement to Marion Barber and they might have found the perfect one in Felix Jones. Splitting time with Darren McFadden at Arkansas, Jones still managed to post big numbers and averaged an astounding 8.7 yards per carry last year. Unlike Barber, who is great at picking up tough yards inside, Jones?s specialty is running the ball outside, where he can use his quickness to elude defenders in space. With Barber shouldering most of the load, Jones should be a solid change of pace back for Dallas? offensive juggernaut.
So,in other words, the Cowboys are going deep into the playoffs this year, this time, 12-4 season, if lucky 13-3
Info for undrafted players and why Mike Jenkins fell in the draft, the BB gun incident was published on USA today news on april 15th in sports section.
Mike Jenkins slid due to 2 things I found out Smoaky, in 2007 he was involved in a BB gun incident with the police. And he told several GM’s that he didn’t like to play in run support. As a cornerback he has to tackle for sure!!!!!
Darrell Robertson
Height: 6-37/8 | Weight: 255 | 40-Time: 4.75
Official Bio
Strengths:
A smooth athlete…Is explosive and quick…Plays faster than he times…Great pass rusher off the edge…Has a rangy frame..Is active and aggressive with a non-stop motor…Excellent in pursuit with a burst to close…Fluid and has some potential in coverage…Offers some versatility..Smart and a hard worker with solid intangibles.
Weaknesses:
Undersized and lacks the ideal bulk you look for…Has trouble shedding blocks…Is not stout at the point of attack and can be run at…Needs to get stronger…On the ground too much…Limited repertoire of pass rush moves…Can be manhandled by massive offensive linemen…He was not all that productive prior to his senior year.
Notes:
‘Tweener who will either need to add weight or make a position change..Could be either a situational pass rusher or outside linebacker depending on scheme…Best fit at the next level will probably be with a team that primarily runs a 3-4 defense.

Very good size and bulk with a solid frame…Good athleticism and quickness…Has terrific hands…Excellent route runner…Tough and fearless…Very smart with great instincts and awareness…Decent blocker..Hard worker with top-notch intangibles.
Weaknesses:
Timed speed is well below average…Is not very explosive and lacks a burst…Not a deep threat and won’t stretch the field vertically…Does not offer much after the catch…Wasn’t real productive…Has some health and durability concerns…Upside?
Notes:
Was a backup point guard on Stanford’s nationally-ranked men’s basketball team from 2003-05…Redshirted in 2005 after suffering a foot injury..His lack of speed is a huge concern but he definitely has some physical tools to work with and he also does all the little things…Not a star but may be able to compete for a roster spot.

Has excellent size and bulk with a huge frame…Very strong and powerful….Stout at the point of attack…Does a terrific job against the run…Good bull rusher…Real active with a good motor…Very smart…A hard worker and good leader…Versatile.

Has had some off-the-field troubles…Might be a bit of a ‘tweener…Timed speed is well below average…Not very explosive and lacks a burst..Plays with inconsistent leverage and needs to work on his technique….Marginal instincts and awareness.
Notes:
Was slated to attend Vanderbilt out of high school but was sent to prison for 15 months for having sexual relations with a minor, although the conviction was later overturned when the Georgia Supreme Court ruled the sex was consensual…His case attracted extensive media attention and was featured on programs such as Oprah and HBO’s Real Sports…Could realistically play defensive end in either a 4-3 or a 3-4 scheme and could even move inside..Interesting developmental prospect.

Danny Amendola
Height: 5-101/2 | Weight: 183 | 40-Time: 4.63
Official Bio
Strengths:
More quick than fast…Elusive…Has reliable hands…A decent route runner…Tough and fearless…Excellent motor…Smart with great awareness…A hard worker with top-notch intangibles…Superb production…Could also contribute as a return man.
Weaknesses:
Size and bulk are merely average…Doesn’t have very good timed speed…Is not a great natural athlete…Not a big play threat and won’t stretch the field…A sub par blocker…Isn’t very strong…Limited upside…Stats inflated by a wide-open offense.
Notes:
Is coming off a great senior campaign…Lacks elite physical tools but is successful because he does all the little things..The comparisons to Wes Welker are obvious, particularly since they both played at Texas Tech, but he is the exception and not the rule…You might be able to get away with being small or slow but it is rare for someone to make it at the NFL level when they have both strikes working against them…A long-shot who at most will be a #4 or #5 receiver and a return specialist.

Andrew Atchison
TE | (6′5 “, 247, 4.78) | WILLIAM & MARY
Overall: Atchison played baseball in his first year at Williams & Mary (2004). He joined the football team in 2005, playing in four games and contributing just one special teams tackle. In 2006, he appeared in all 11 games (five starts) and grabbed 12 receptions for 183 yards (15.2 average) and two touchdowns. As a senior last season, he started all 11 games and had 34 receptions for 475 yards (14.0 average) and six touchdowns. Atchison is going to have problems separating from man coverage and he’s a raw blocker at this point so he projects as a seventh round pick or rookie free agent. However, he has a great deal of upside because he has the frame to get bigger, he is athletic and he’s got adequate top-end speed.
Atchison got the largest signing bonus so far!!!!!
Keon Lattimore
RB | (5′10 “, 228, 4.589) | MARYLAND
Overall: Lattimore played in 12 games (two starts) in his first two seasons at Maryland (2004-’05), picking up a combined 196 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 65 carries (3.0 average) and five receptions for two yards. He appeared in 13 games (two starts) in 2006, rushing for 784 yards and three scores on 160 carries (4.6 average) and adding 20 receptions for 210 yards (10.5 average). In 12 games (nine starts) as a senior, he had 869 yards and 13 TDs on 213 carries (3.8 average), plus 21 receptions for 95 yards (4.5 average). Lattimore missed five games in 2004 because of a dislocated shoulder and sat out three games in 2005 after a recurrence of the injury. He also missed a game in 2007 because of a hamstring injury. Lattimore’s blend of size and quick feet could make him a valuable reserve

thoughts on how to approach Wade Phillips on 13-3 season, and losses for cowboys in playoffs last 5 years,
Smoaky, here are some of my thoughts on wade phillips and his 13-3 season, and maybe a way so he wouldnt get defensive to point out to him; i posted 2 things on your cowboys blog, but didnt see a place to post this;
Different Thoughts on Wade Phillips 13-3 season last year!
First, I agree with most of you guys, over the issue about the Cowboys going 13-3 and wade phillips saying, well we did win 13-3, so we did actually win a playoff game with the bye, etc. Now, to me, thats the wrong attitude, maybe that’s why wade phillips failed in buffalo, he did get his teams to playoffs and improve each first 2 years there. Yet, each playoff game he was in as a head coach he lost. Why.
However, a friend of mine, put it to me this way, when you are critical of a player or a coach, and you keep harping on him, he will get defensive. Like I mentioned to my friend, we all know how the Cowboys have fallen flat in december and when they are in the playoffs, seems like no fire, heart is there. So, how are you going Wade Phillips to change that atmosphere in Dallas without Wade getting defensive?
Again, my friend said, your pointing fingers, etc, best way maybe to use something in your life, like his was when he coached football and played, they were winning successfully, but when they got to the playoffs, the head coach changed what they had been doing successfully, and went with something totally different. Of course, then my friend said their rhythm fell off, and guys that hadnt been prepared during the season, when called upon, they werent ready. Then his team failed to win.
That is similar to what happened to Dallas last year, as you all know, everyone kept calling for Barber to get the ball 24/7, when he did, he ran out of gas in the 2nd half against the Giants, as we all know. Along with the game against the Redskins as you all remember, Tony Romo said we held things back, well our rhythm since the Green Bay game recessed and recessed. Going into december at least 2-3 games before the playoffs, you have to or most of the time be hot.
So, I was thinking, maybe some of you guys have a similar story where you coached or played, and you changed styles at end of year, didnt play your backups like you should have (in comparrison the Giants played their backups all year long as example and they played them to their strenghts, not try to fit them into what T O or Crayton or someone else was doing). That way, if someone gets this to the media and in a round about way then that theory story gets to Wade Phillips, someone telling their own story of how they failed with similar theology plays etc, that Wade Phillips can relate to without feeling threatened and say to himself, when the light comes on listening to your true story of why you failed in the playoffs, Wade can say to himself, you know, thats what has happened to me, now how can i change that so that doesnt happen again joe
