Rep. Mike Pence working to kill “Fairness Doctrine.”

By Paul Gleiser | September 2, 2008 | Print This Print This

It’s no secret that conservatives have dominated talk radio since the success of Rush Limbaugh starting over 20 years ago.

The fact is, talk radio like that practiced by Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and others was not possible prior to 1987 because of a federal rule called the “Fairness Doctrine.” Ronald Reagan’s FCC abolished the Fairness Doctrine but Democrats in Congress wish to revive it in either its original form or in a modified form.

Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) is trying to get legislation to the House floor that would permanently end the Fairness Doctrine. He believes that if Democrats control both houses of Congress and the White House, the Fairness Doctrine will be reinstated and talk radio as we know it will disappear.

Our interview with Congressman Pence is below.
