
The DeSoto Eagles edged the Tyler Lee Red Raiders 28-21 on Friday night at Trinity Mother Francis Rose Stadium. The Eagles jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter lead. Lee countered with Hayden Tomlinson's 20 yard touchdown run in the second quarter and trailed 21-7 at halftime.
In the second half, the Tyler Lee defense, playing without three injured starters, contained the high octane DeSoto offense. Aaron Meyers scored the only third quarter touchdown on a 48 yard run. In the fourth quarter, Lee stopped DeSoto on a 4th and 6 at the 19 yard line. The Red Raiders tied the game on a 78 yard drive that ended when freshman LaQuintas Wallace cracked the end zone from 8 yards out with 10:29 left in the game.
DeSoto took over and senior tailback Marcus Murphy dominated the game winning drive and scored the go ahead one yard touchdown. Lee quarterback Luke Wagner's deep pass with just over a minute to play was intercepted and clinched the win for DeSoto.
The Eagles are 6-1 overall and 2-0 in district 11-5A. Tyler Lee falls to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in district play.
