TYLER -- As the sun sets on the current legislative session in Austin, some East Texans are making a grandstand play to try and solve a shortage of doctors in the area. According to KETK, community leaders gathered Tuesday in Tyler to put pressure on state senators. Dr. Bennie Webster with the Community Health Clinics of Northeast Texas says in the past year, her patient count has grown by 5,000 -- and, "unfortunately, we just don't have enough doctors." Webster and others support a House bill that would forgive loans for doctors who serve in needy communities. State Senator Kevin Eltife says although the initiative is good, there may not be enough time in the session to pass the bill. It still has not been assigned to a committee, and the session ends June 1.
