The first annual KTBB Scholastic All-Stars Flag Football Tournament was a huge success Saturday at the Green Acres Baptist Church South Recreational Fields better know as “The ROC” just south of Tyler.
The Goon Squad, a team made up mostly of former John Tyler players captured the first-ever title by defeating State Champs in the Championship Game. State Champs was comprised of members of this past season’s Chapel Hill Bulldogs Class 3A Div. I State Championship team.
Big thanks to all the teams, players, and coaches who participated as we hope to grow this tournament into an annual event.

As the Dallas Cowboys began preseason action with a thrilling come from behind victory over Denver, KTBB’s Mike Alzamora brings you many of the sights from the first week of training camp at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
The Cowboys will continue preparing for the 2011 NFL season by working out at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington. They host San Diego for their second preseason game Saturday at 7:00pm.

Sunday June 26, 2011 marked the second KTBB Rangers Bus Trip in conjunction with Fox Sports Southwest. The KTBB Sportstalk crew took 49 lucky individuals to Rangers Ballpark in Arlington aboard the Fan Express Bus and once again a great time was had by all.
The Rangers fell to the New York Mets 8-5 in a contest that did not lack entertainment. Manager Ron Washington was ejected along with shortstop Elvis Andrus who wasn’t even in the game. Despite the loss, it turned out to be a wonderful experience for everyone who made the journey.

In partnership with Fox Sports Southwest, the KTBB Sportstalk crew took 44 lucky individuals to Rangers Ballpark in Arlington aboard the Fan Express Bus. The Rangers took on the Chicago White Sox that evening but Mother Nature turned out to be the dominant force of the night.

The All-East Texas Class 3A Division I State Championship Game at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington drew a raucous crowd of over 20,000 fans Friday and the Henderson Lions left with the trophy. Henderson defeated the Chapel Hill Bulldogs 28-21 on Friday night for the school’s first state title. Henderson quarterback LaBradford “Del” Barnes, playing with a broken left wrist, threw a pair of touchdown passes. Cord Fletcher added a one yard run and backup quarterback Jay O’Neal delivered a 47 yard third quarter sprint.
Chapel Hill’s scores came on a 26 yard touchdown pass from Avery Saenz to Nelson Onwuzu along with short touchdown runs from Andrew Tucker and Lairamie Lee. Henderson limited Chapel Hill’s high scoring offense to 239 total yards and the Lions’ defense sacked Saenz 8 times.
Henderson Head Coach Dickey Meeks wins his second championship after leading Chapel Hill to the 1989 Class 4A state title. Coach Thomas Sitton’s Bulldogs finish the 2010 season with a 13-2 record. The Lions take home the UIL trophy with a matching 13-2 mark.

The John Tyler Lions took advantage of four Tyler Lee turnovers and defeated the Red Raiders 17-0 on Friday night at Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium. Demarcus Humber put the first score on the board late in the first quarter on a ten yard touchdown run. Julian Varona added a 27 yard field goal on the final play of the first half.
The Lions iced the game with 8:39 left in the fourth quarter on quarterback David Bush’s electrifying tackle breaking 36 yard run.
Lee fumbled twice and quarterback Joseph Seeber threw a pair of interceptions as Lee fell to 0-3 on the season. John Tyler is now 2-1 before opening play in District 14-4A in two weeks. Lee hosts the Woodlands on Friday night September 17th.
The Red Raiders had won 12 of the last 13 meetings and four in a row dating back to 2005. John Tyler now leads the all-time series 28-26-1.

The John Tyler Lions advanced the 4th round of the Class 5A Division II playoffs with a 37-24 win over Klein Collins in Waco Saturday. JT lead by a 16-10 score at halftime but outscored the Tigers 14-0 in the 3rd quarter and cruised to the 13 point victory.

The Tyler Lee Red Raiders led the Round Rock Stony Point Tigers for 46 of the game’s 48 minutes, but the final two minutes cost them a chance to reach the Class 5A Division I Region 2 Final.Â Stony Point’s Aaryn Sharp scored the go ahead touchdown on a 7 yard run with 2:03 left to play and defeated Lee 27-23 at Waco ISD Stadium on Saturday.
