‘Drug Dog’ Initiated Large Meth Bust

TYLER Tyler Police have confiscated a large amount of methamphetamine during a traffic stop. It happened around 7:00 Saturday night in the 3300 block of Mineola Highway. The driver, Fernando Mercado Zertuche, 25, Mexico, was arrested for traffic offenses. During the stop, the officers K-9 partner, Paco, alerted on the vehicle indicating that there was possibly an illegal substance inside. After further investigation officers located 5.4 pounds of methamphetamine in a hidden compartment inside the vehicle. The meth had a street value of over $100,000. Zertuche was charged with manufacturing/delivery of a controlled substance and traffic offenses. He was booked into the Smith County Jail.
