Man Held after Threats to Neighbors

LONGVIEW — A Gladewater man was placed in the Gregg County Jail on bonds totaling $200,000 after authorities said he broke into his neighbor�s house and later threatened to kill his neighbors because they reported him to police. That’s according to KETK and the Longview News-Journal. According to police records, Amos Edward Simmons, 34, was served warrants Thursday charging him with burglary of a habitation and retaliation in connection with the alleged crimes.

Simmons was originally arrested April 8, under suspicion of criminal trespass, after a neighbor in the 100 block of Meridian, between Gladewater and Liberty City, said she confronted him in her master bedroom, telling him to leave her house. While reviewing the case, investigators believed Simmons was not honest in his first interview with authorities and upgraded the accusation to burglary of a habitation, saying they believed he entered the house to steal property, according to criminal complaints filed in the 188th District Court. Gregg County sheriff�s deputies also said Simmons retaliated against the neighbors April 21 after being released from the Gregg County Jail on April 11 on a $1,000 bond.

According to the complaints, Simmons railed against a �J. Dunnavant� after Dunnavant mentioned Simmons burglarizing his home. �Dunnavant advised that Simmons was acting as if he had a gun and told Dunnavant that he had a 9 millimeter and would �put a cap in him,� the complaint stated.
