TYLER — For the third consecutive year, the City of Tyler has published its Annual Report as an E-Book, with linked video, and as a printed document with QR Codes. The 20-page report outlines the financial status of the City and highlights new programs and achievements from 2012.

QR codes are placed throughout the document to link readers to web pages and videos related to the report’s articles. A QR Reader comes standard on many smartphones or can be downloaded from the app store. Those looking at a printed version of the report can simply scan the QR code and the smart phone will automatically go to the web site or video on You Tube. In the electronic version of the report, click on the code and it will serve as a link.
The 20-page report provides information about the Mayor, City Council, leadership staff, tax rate, budget revenues and expenditures and key organizational achievements during 2012. “The annual report is one of many tools that we use to enhance transparency,” said Mayor Bass. “The City’s Channel 3 station, the City website, Facebook page, Twitter page, Pinterest page, news releases and public speaking engagements are other important tools used to communicate with our constituents.” By choosing to publish the report electronically, the City has saved nearly $10,000 each year, according to officials, who say the E-report is more interactive and environmentally friendly.
