TYLER — The Texas Department of Public Safety, Tyler Police Department, Smith County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas Game Wardens have joined together to work in Smith County this weekend on Operation Reclaim. Officers will be looking for drunk drivers, public intoxication, individuals not wearing a seatbelt, and other violations.
“The Memorial Day Weekend historically brings a number of calls, especially from Smith County residents who live on the lake, complaining that individuals are not acting responsibly and are disturbing others,” said John Moore, public information officer, Smith County Sheriff’s Office. “The DPS, Tyler PD, Game Wardens, and the Sheriff’s Office are coming together to try and make this a pleasant holiday for all.”
Specifically, the Click It Or Ticket campaign, which targets those not wearing a seatbelt, and the No Refusal weekend, which prevents those suspected of drunk driving from declining a blood test, will be enforced. “If someone sees a suspected drunk driver or other criminal activity, we encourage them to call 911,” Moore added.
