TxDOT logoTYLER — Here’s a quick look at other work planned in the Tyler District of the Texas Department of Transportation.

SMITH COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation contractor Reynolds & Kay, Ltd., has begun approximately three months of pavement repairs and resurfacing operations on NNE Loop 323 between U.S. Highway 69 North and American Legion Drive where North Loop 323 meets East Loop 323.

Elsewhere in Smith County, TxDOT maintenance crews this week are scheduled to continue base and pavement repairs on Farm Road 2661 between State Highway 31 near Chandler and State Highway 64 west of Toll 49. A second crew is scheduled on Monday to begin seal coat operations on Farm Road 849 between State Highway 110 near Hide-A-Way and Farm Road 16 in Lindale. Daytime lane closures will be in effect in each location while the work is in progress, and flaggers will control traffic in two-lane areas. Loose gravel may be present for several days following a seal coat application.

ANDERSON COUNTY — The Texas Department of Transportation’s annual preventative maintenance program known as District-Wide Seal Coat is scheduled to continue this week in Anderson County as it moves through all eight counties of the Tyler District, treating nearly 300 miles of roadway before concluding work in August. On Monday, crews sealed Farm Road 837 between State Highway 19 and Farm Road 315 before moving to Farm Road 320 on Tuesday between U.S. Highway 79 in Palestine and Farm Road 645 west of Palestine. Then beginning Wednesday, crews are scheduled to spend two days sealing SSE Loop 256 between U.S, Highway 84 East and US 79 South, then finish the week sealing U.S. Highway 287 between SE Loop 256 and Farm Road 2419.

“Seal coat is a fast-moving operation,” said TxDOT spokesman Larry Krantz. “It’s also cost-effective. We can seal six miles of road for the cost of one mile of hot mix, and the seal coat will last longer.” TxDOT maintenance crews have been working on the roadways to be sealed for the past 18 months, and the seal coat application will help the repairs last for as many as 10 years in some places. “Water is a roadway’s worst enemy,” Krantz said. “Seal coats help keep water out of any cracks in the roadway surface, which helps keep potholes from forming. This process is our ounce of prevention being preferable to the pound of cure.” Also this week in Anderson County, TxDOT maintenance crews are scheduled to make base and pavement repairs in various locations on Farm Road 319 southeast of Palestine. Daytime lane closures will be in effect in each location while the work is in progress, and flaggers will control traffic in two-lane areas. Loose gravel may be present for several days following a seal coat application.

JACKSONVILLE – After numerous delays, Texas Department of Transportation contract crews this week are scheduled to begin pavement-repair work on Farm Road 347 (Bolton Street) between Cherokee Street and Loop 456. Daytime lane closures will be in effect in each location while the work is in progress, and flaggers will control traffic.

GREGG COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation contract crews this week are scheduled to continue work on the westbound Interstate Highway 20 bridge at the Sabine River between Longview and Kilgore. Lane closures will be in place 24 hours per day between now through Thursday, July 18 while the work on the bridge deck is completed.

Also this week in Gregg County, TxDOT maintenance crews are scheduled to begin resurfacing operations on Farm Road 2276 between Farm Road 2087 near Rolling Meadows and Farm Road 349 east of Kilgore. Daytime lane closures will be in effect while the work is in progress, and flaggers will control traffic in two-lane areas.

HENDERSON – Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews this week are scheduled to continue pavement-repair operations on U.S. Highway 79 between the Star and Farm Road 225. Daytime lane closures will be in effect while the work is in progress. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes if possible, and be prepared to reduce speed and merge in and around the work zone.

WOOD COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews this week are scheduled to continue edge work on Farm Road 2422 and Farm Road 1804, both east of Mineola. Daytime lane closures will be in effect while the work is in progress, and flaggers will control traffic.

VAN ZANDT COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews this week are scheduled to perform base and edge repairs on Farm Road 1651 between State Highway 198 and Farm Road 47. Daytime lane closures will be in effect while the work is in progress, and flaggers will control traffic in two-lane areas.
