RUSK_COUNTY_FATALITY_SUMMIT_KETK.1374203745HENDERSON — The last seven months, Rusk County has had 12 accidents, which have killed 16 people, and those staggering numbers have the community concerned. According to KETK, that’s why the first ever traffic fatality summit in Rusk County was put together Thursday afternoon. Community leaders, law enforcement officials, and others from across and outside Rusk County were attendance. Among the meeting’s speakers were engineers with TxDOT as well as representation from Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Along all the suggestions at the summit, they all agreed that educating the public at large about the importance of staying focused while driving was the best course of action. There are plans to better educate people driving in Rusk County, and all over East Texas, about the dangers of being inattentive at the wheel. Both Carlisle and Henderson High Schools plan to work with their students on these issues this coming fall.
