thumb_longview-cityofLongview — The second phase of the construction project to renovate Green Street in downtown Longview will begin today. To accommodate construction, Green Street will be closed from north of the Tyler Street intersection up to and including the Methvin intersection. Drivers are urged to drive cautiously in these areas for the safety of construction workers. The Phase 2 street closures are expected to remain in effect through early December.

As construction shifts from Phase 1 to Phase 2, the intersection at Tyler Street and Green Street will reopen to eastbound and westbound traffic on Tyler Street. Also, the southern portion of the Green Street and Cotton Street intersection will reopen. However, the Green Street railroad underpass will remain closed between Cotton Street and Tyler Street as work continues in that underpass.

This street closure is part of the Downtown Parking Streetscape Improvements project approved by voters in the 2011 Capital Improvements bond package. This project consists of improvements to Green Street in the downtown area from Cotton Street to Whaley Street, including improvements to paving, storm sewer system, sidewalks, streetscape, and landscaping. The project also includes increasing vehicular clearance under the train crossing at Green Street.
