Jimmy Ray GibsonLONGVIEW — Two suspects have been arrested in Longview on charges related to a vehicle burglary. On Wednesday at 3:05 p.m., Longview Police were dispatched to the 2400 Block of Gilmer Road, where the burglary had reportedly just occurred. When officers arrived, they were told by the victim that her car window had been smashed and her purse taken out of the front seat. Police spoke with a witness who said a man had broken the window out with a hammer, stolen the purse, and driven away. Officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle at a gas station just a few yards away from the crime scene.

Officers identified the suspects as Jimmy Ray Gibson of Gilmer and Stephanie Stewart of Longview, both 25. The victims purse and the hammer used to break the victims car window were located inside the suspect vehicle, along with other property believed to be stolen too, according to police. Stewart was arrested for burglary of a vehicle. At the time officers located the suspects, Ray was allegedly attempting to use the victims credit card to purchase gas. Ray was arrested for credit card abuse and burglary of a vehicle. Both were transported to the Gregg County Jail without incident.

Longview Police want to remind citizens not make themselves a target of vehicle burglars. Police say it only takes moments for a burglar to knock out the window and take valuables that may never be replaced. If citizens must leave their valuables in their car, they’re urged lock them up in the trunk before arriving at their destination. Even covering them with a blanket or with other items or putting them under the seat does not deter a burglar, according to police. They say even if the item is not valuable, burglars may still break the window and take it. Police also remind citizens to report suspicious activity by calling 903-237-1170. Authorities say a witness was able to give police the information they needed to solve this case.
