LONGVIEW — The man shot by a Longview police officer earlier this month is in jail after being released from the hospital. KETK reports Shaun Antonio Thompson, 26, was booked into Gregg County Jail on Wednesday on a charge of aggravated assault against a public servant. Thompson was shot by a Longview officer on August 12, at the Penwood Apartments in the 500 block of Scenic Drive.
Officers received a call that night about a man with a weapon walking around the complex. Police say when officers arrived, they found Thompson and told him several times to drop the weapon. According to court documents, Thompson then swung the gun towards the officer and that’s when the officer shot Thompson. Thompson was taken to a local hospital and was treated for several days. While Thompson was in the hospital, a warrant was issued for his arrest. The Longview officer involved in the shooting is still on paid administrative leave until the investigation is complete.
