TJC SignTYLER — A Tyler Junior College student has been injured after being struck by a car on a campus parking lot. Shortly after 8:45 Monday morning, Jamie Guerra was struck by a car as she was walking across the faculty/staff parking lot located near the Pirtle Technology building at the corner of East Lake Street and South Mahon Avenue. The vehicle was driven by its owner, TJC employee Zereda “Precious” Ivy. According to reports, Ivy was on her way to work and was driving in the faculty/staff lot and Guerra was hit from the back and fell, with the car rolling over her.

The student was transported to East Texas Medical Center and is reportedly conscious and in stable condition, with two injured ribs, partially collapsed lungs, a laceration over her eye, multiple bruises and “road rash.” Officials said she would be admitted to the hospital overnight for observation.

TJC President Dr. Mike Metke visited Guerra at the hospital and said, “Jamie is an amazing young woman and excellent student who is studying to become an engineer. I’m so pleased that it appears she will make a speedy recovery and hopefully be back in her classes soon.

The accident remains under investigation.
