thumb_police-longview2LONGVIEW — Three Pine Tree football players have been arrested for possessing marijuana several months ago. KETK reports all three players have been playing in every game for the Pirates this season. The three are identified as Robert Hines, Tyler Smith and Ladarius Fluellen. It stems from a June 11th incident when police were called to the high school. According to the Longview Police Department, a Pine Tree teacher called authorities to report the alleged drug use on school property in June. The report also states the high school principal was present during a search by police.

According to records from the Longview Police Department and the Gregg County Sheriff’s Office, school personnel had searched four students, the three players and a female student. The truck the four had been in was also searched. The truck and the students’ clothing is said to have smelled of marijuana. Officers reportedly found in the truck a Chik-fil-A box that contained two partially burnt blunts. Police reports say the students’ eyes were bloodshot and glazed over. There were no arrests made at the time. However, over the past few days, the three boys were booked into the Gregg County Jail.

Fluellen has been charged with possession in a drug free zone, while Hines and Smith were charged with possession. Smith has also been charged with stealing an iPhone back in May at a 7-on-7 football event at Kilgore High School. KETK contacted Pine Tree ISD Communications and Public Information Specialist Vickie Echols for comment early Tuesday afternoon. Echols e-mailed KETK back, Wednesday morning, stating the following: “We have received and reviewed your inquiry, but it is our policy not to discuss information regarding students. Because student information is protected by law, the school district is legally and ethically bound not to discuss situations such as in your inquiry. Thank you for understanding.”
