vlcsnap_2013_10_12_22h34m07s55TYLER — The candidates running for Lieutenant Governor took part in a debate at the Ornelas center at UT Tyler. The four candidates running for Lieutenant Governor are Incumbent David Dewhurst, State Senator Dan Patrick, Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson and Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples. As the presiding chairman of the State Senate, the Lieutenant Governor sets the agenda for the Texas Senate and chooses the committee chairs for Senate committees.

KETK reports, with the absence of Incumbent David Dewhurst the other three candidates were asked questions on a variety of topics. One question in particular had the audience talking. The candidates were asked if they could ‘walk the walk,’ instead of just ‘talking the talk.’

“Being direct, being honest,” said Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson. “I would rather vote for someone who was honest with me than someone who I could agree with on every subject.” “We need the will to win and shoot straight,” said Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples. “I have consistently received a high mark on virtually every score card,” said State Senator Dan Patrick.

All three candidates voted for Lt. Governor David Dewhurst in the last election.
