Oil Moving through Keystone XL Pipeline’s Southern Leg
Posted/updated on: December 11, 2013 at 10:35 amHOUSTON — Oil is flowing towards Texas through the Keystone XL pipeline. TransCanada has begun putting oil into the pipeline’s southern leg, which runs from Oklahoma to Port Arthur, Texas. The route includes part of eastern Smith County as well as other portions of East Texas. Houston energy analyst Andy Lipow says commercial operations will begin in about a month. That’s how long it will take to fill the pipeline with oil. According to Lipow, “For Texas refineries, it’s good news, because they can now access that mid-continent oil which has been bottled up due to the lack of logistics around Cushing, Oklahoma.” He says the oil will increase supply and ultimately translate into lower gasoline prices.
