BrookshiresTYLER — Brookshire Grocery Co. stores throughout Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas recently completed the 32nd Annual Spirit of Christmas Food Drive. Donations collected in each store remained in that community to help needy families. “In the midst of our busiest season of the year, our store teams and customers assisted some 18,000 needy families by supplying more than 20,000 boxes of food. Thanks to the efforts of our employees and customers, more than 30,000 grab bags and $40,000 in scan coupons were sold, making Christmas brighter for many,” said BGC President and CEO Rick Rayford.

Approximately 150 Brookshire Grocery Co. stores (Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods and FRESH by Brookshire’s) collected donations of non-perishable food items, teaming up with a wide range of service organizations, food pantries, and other volunteer groups to distribute food to families who were in need of assistance. Needy families received boxes of nonperishable food items, as well as a coupon for a free roasting hen to accompany each box of food distributed. The stores also sold scan coupons, applying those donations to purchase additional food for the food drive.

BGC’s first food drive took place in Tyler in 1982 with the Rose City Kiwanis Club. Nearly 100 families received assistance that year in the Tyler area. Last year, more than 500,000 pounds of food were collected and donated to more than 14,000 families in the Ark-La-Tex.
