Number of Failing Texas Schools Nearly Doubles; Many in East Texas

AUSTIN (AP/Staff) � Texas education authorities say the number of schools falling short of minimum standards and placed on the Public Education Grant list doubled from 2012 because of newer, higher standards. A number of East Texas campuses are named. A total of 892 schools were listed statewide in 2013, up from 456 in 2012. The list allows students to transfer from substandard schools to other campuses.
