TYLER — The Tyler Independent School District announces the hiring of Maya Bethany as the executive director of the Tyler ISD Foundation. Bethany has been approved by the foundation’s board of directors and joins the Tyler ISD Foundation from the Lindale Independent School District, where she currently serves as the district’s communications specialist and executive director of the Lindale ISD Education Foundation. She is a familiar face to many in Tyler as she previously worked as a news reporter and sports anchor for KLTV from 2004-2009. An Emmy-winning journalist known on-air as Maya Golden, she has also earned several Texas Associated Press Broadcasters awards.
Bethany is the recipient of the 2011 Texas School Public Relations Association’s Rookie of the Year Award for her work with education foundations and school district communications. She has assisted with the launch of several school district foundations in Texas including organizations in Malakoff, Anderson-Shiro and Lufkin. She is an active member of the Texas Education Foundation Network and is a member of the annual state conference planning committee. Bethany has been a featured speaker at the National School Foundation Association’s national conference.
Tyler ISD Foundation President Kim Farrell said Bethany “brings a fresh, new excitement and passion for our mission of supporting our teachers and students in our great school district.” Bethany says, “I am extremely excited to begin work with the Tyler ISD Foundation…I look forward to working with the community and sharing a vision to help our community’s children enjoy learning in unique and innovative situations and to strengthen our schools.” Bethany will officially begin her duties with the Tyler ISD Foundation Jan. 21, 2014.
