Saturday afternoon around 3:45 p.m., the Tyler Police Department received a 911 call about a possible robbery of an individual on the 2800 block of Garden Valley. The victim stated that two black males had tried to steal his truck and produced a gun when confronted. Police say both suspects ran towards Boulter Middle School. According to a news release, officers quickly responded and spotted one of the suspects behind the school. A brief foot chase followed, and the first suspect was taken into custody. A few minutes later the second suspect was found hiding under one of the buildings on school property, according to law officers.

The first suspect was identified as Tylon Thomas, 18. The second suspect was found to be a 13-year- old juvenile. According to police, on-scene investigation showed that both suspects had entered the victims dump truck and found a set of keys in the sun visor. They had started the vehicle and begun to pull away when the victim ran out of his house and confronted the suspects, police say. Both suspects reportedly abandoned the vehicle and started to run. The victim believed that one of the suspects was reaching for a gun when he confronted them but this turned out to be a cell phone.

Tylon Thomas was transported to the Smith County Jail and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest. The juvenile was transported to the Smith County Juvenile Attention Center and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
