thumb_tyler-mainstreetTYLER — Tyler has been commended for successful annual progress as a designated Main Street community by the Texas Historical Commission. Tyler’s Main Street program was reaccredited with a near perfect score. 63 designated Main Street programs in Texas were recognized. Tyler’s score of 105.5 out of a possible 106 was the second-highest in the state for communities of comparable size.

Accredited programs show above average performance in ten categories on an annual report. Selection criteria focus on planning, partnerships, staffing, volunteer effort, preservation ethic, training and program assessment through reporting. Extensive reports and documentation provided by the local programs are evaluated to develop the scores.

“We are so proud of this achievement,” said Beverly Abell, department leader for the City of Tyler Main Street Department. “This recognition is due to the tremendous contributions of time, talent and expertise given by our volunteers and partners,” Abell said. “Our progress would not be where it is today without them.”
