Free Bulky Item Collection Extended
Posted/updated on: March 11, 2014 at 2:31 amTYLER — The City of Tyler Solid Waste Department and Keep Tyler Beautiful are continuing to sponsor a free bulky item collection for City of Tyler residential customers. Due to the icy weather, the free bulky item collection has been extended to Friday, March 14. Bulky items that will be picked up at no charge include furniture, appliances, carpet, fence material, up to four noncommercial vehicle tires, old toys and other large items that would normally require a special fee. No liquid waste will be picked up. Paint must be dried out with oil dry or kitty litter.
There is a possibility that citizens bulky items may be picked up on a different day from their regularly scheduled garbage collection. Be advised that you will not need to call the Solid Waste Office after placing bulky items at the curb. The Recycling Center is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is located at 418 N. Bois DArc Ave. in downtown Tyler. The following items are accepted:
Scrap metal (copper, aluminum, brass and steel)
Copper wire (extension cords, wiring, power cords, etc.)
Steel and tin cans (rinsed)
Used motor oil, antifreeze and batteries
Clear, Green and Brown Glass bottles and Jars (must be rinsed with lids removed, NO MIRRORS, NO BLUE COLORED GLASS)
Aluminum Cans (no pie plates)
Cardboard (single layer and corrugated)
Newspapers, magazines, phone books, ads, junk mail and office paper
Electronics (NO TVs)
Printer cartridges
Cell phones and phone chargers
#1 and #2 plastic containers (examples: soda and water bottles, milk and detergent bottles)
Residents are encouraged to contact the Habitat for Humanity ReStore or Goodwill Industries before disposing of unwanted items that are in good condition. Computers and other electronics can be recycled at any Tyler Goodwill drop off on weekdays or at the Tyler Recycling Collection Center from Wednesday through Saturday.
