ericmcquilliamsmugMINEOLA An East Texas man with alleged ties to the Mexican drug cartel is in the Wood County Jail after he was arrested during a drug interdiction stop. According to KETK, at approximately 9:00 p.m. Thursday, Wood County Sheriffs Office investigators encountered and arrested Eric McQuilliams, 25, of Mineola on Highway 80 in Mineola. According to authorities, McQuilliams claimed to have ties with the cartel, and authorities say he admittedly is one of the largest dealers in the area.

According to law enforcement, investigators found McQuilliams in a vehicle and realized he had outstanding warrants for probation violation. The deputies took McQuilliams into custody on the warrants. Officials say upon further investigation, and with the assistance of a Smith County K-9 unit, the investigators discovered in McQuilliams’s car an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine, marijuana, scales and other items associated with the sale and transportation of narcotics. As a result of the search investigators seized two cars as well as over $25,000 in cash, according to authorities. Officials say several handguns, one of which was reported to be stolen out of Kilgore, were also found in the vehicle with McQuilliams.

McQuilliams is being held in the Wood County Jail, charged with the alleged probation violation, as well as possession with intent to deliver marijuana and methamphetamine. He is also being charged with felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.
