thumb_MotherFrances-sign-2TYLER — Tyler is home to one of the first facilities in East Texas to implant the Medtronic Reveal LINQ Insertable Cardiac Monitor (ICM) System in a patient. That announcement came Wednesday from Mother Frances Hospital and its onsite Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital. Officials say the device is the smallest implantable cardiac monitoring device available. Trinity Clinic Electrophysiologists Dr. John Sims and Dr. Stan Weiner performed the procedures.

According to a news release, the Reveal LINQ ICM is approximately one-third the size of a AAA battery (~1 cc), making it more than 80 percent smaller than other ICMs. Officials say while significantly smaller, the device is part of a powerful system that allows physicians to continuously and wirelessly monitor a patient’s heart for up to three years, with 20 percent more data memory than its larger predecessor, Reveal XT. “We are extremely excited to be one of the first hospitals in East Texas to have this technology available,” said Dr. Weiner. “It converts what was previously a small surgical procedure into effectively a minimally-invasive procedure.”
