kyeraibonmugTYLER Smith County authorities have arrested a man accused of shooting his brother. According to information from the Smith County Sheriffs Office, Wednesday evening shortly after at 7:15, the sheriffs office dispatch was contacted by Henderson County, which had received a 911 call regarding a disturbance. On the call, Henderson County authorities reported hearing a female yelling about a firearm and someone bleeding. The call was traced to Smith County, and shortly before 7:30, a Smith County deputy was dispatched to a residence in the 16800 block of County Road 1112, where the disturbance occurred.

After arriving at the residence, a Smith County Deputy spoke with a woman there who advised that 39-year-old Kye Raibon had shot his brother, 33-year-old Real Johnson. The woman reported that Raibon had fled the residence with a weapon and that Johnson had left the residence seeking medical care. At 7:25 p.m. the Smith County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a call from a motorist near the intersection of FM 2661 and CR 1112 reporting a man with no shirt who was standing in the middle of the road screaming for someone to take him to a hospital. Sheriff Larry Smith, the Smith County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, multiple Smith County Sheriffs Office Deputies, the Smith County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, the Smith County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, DPS, and Constable Precinct 2s Office units responded.

Mr. Raibon fled into a wooded area near the residence, but with the arrival and assistance of the DPS helicopter, at approximately 9:34 p.m., the Smith County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team located Raibon, placed him under arrest and recovered the weapon, said Sheriff Larry Smith. From preliminary reports from witnesses at the scene, it appears that Mr. Raibon and his brother, Mr. Johnson, got into an argument and the shooting stemmed from that. Both Raibon and Johnson reportedly lived at the residence with other family members. Johnson was taken to an area hospital by private vehicle for treatment and his condition is currently unknown.

Raibon was taken to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. After questioning, he was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a family member and booked in to the Smith County Jail. He’s being held on $150,000 bond. Officials say more information will be released as it becomes available.
