Marty Lane CrawfordTYLER Tyler school trustees have unanimously named Dr. Marty Lane Crawford as the lone finalist for the Districts superintendent position. The announcement was made at last nights monthly board meeting. The District is required to wait 21 days before officially hiring Dr. Crawford. I am honored to be named the lone finalist for the superintendent position at Tyler ISD, Dr. Crawford said. I am excited to work with the Districts students, faculty and staff to meet and exceed our goals. Together we will be able to continue moving forward in achieving academic excellence.

Dr. Crawford has served as the Superintendent of Schools for the West Independent School District for six years. Leading a long list of credentials, he has most notably overseen the recovery of the Districts school system after the April 17, 2013, fertilizer plant explosion that destroyed three campuses, leveled more than 150 homes, displaced and injured hundreds, and took 15 lives from the community.

We are excited as we welcome an experienced superintendent who is a proven educational visionary and an inspirational leader, Rev. Orenthia Mason, Tyler ISD Board of Trustees President, said. The Tyler ISD Board of Trustees is confident that Dr. Crawford will work untiringly to move Tyler ISD to achieve recognition as a premiere district in East Texas.

Crawford earned his Texas superintendent certification and a doctorate in educational administration from Texas A&M University-Commerce. He completed his 2006 dissertation on the Texas school superintendent, conducting research that identified the nexus of 1983s A Nation at Risk as the turning point for Texas school superintendent leadership.

Additionally, Crawford holds a Bachelor of Education from Baylor University, a Master of Education from The University of Oklahoma and has worked in Dallas ISD, Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD, Highland Park ISD and Oklahoma City Public Schools. He has held various professional positions at the high school, middle school and elementary school levels.

Dr. Crawford and his wife Alanna, are proud parents of three children; two daughters, Ashton, 17, a recent high school graduate and A.J., 4, who begins pre-k in August; and one son, Jackson, 12, who begins seventh grade this year.
