Law Enforcement Officers Cleared in Fatal Shooting

vinsonarrestLONGVIEW – A Gregg County grand jury has cleared five officers in the death of murder suspect Randy Vinson (pictured). The Texas Rangers investigated the shooting. KETK reports the grand jury cleared;
• Kilgore Police Chief Todd Hunter
• Kilgore Police Sgt. Jarod Sears
• Kilgore Police Cpl. Kevin Stewart
• Kilgore Police Officer Amos Owings
• Gregg County Sheriff’s Deputy Chase Doss

On February 18th, Vinson is said to have murdered his sister-in-law Elizabeth Vinson, 32. Her body was found in her vehicle in the driveway of her home off Highway 31. After the shooting, Vinson ran into some near-by woods. That set off a massive manhunt.

Ten minutes later Vinson fired a shot and officers returned the fire. Vinson, who was hit, fell into a creek. As officers approached, Vinson is said to have risen out of the water and tried to grab his gun, a SKS Rifle with a 21 cartridge magazine. It was then officers shot and killed him.
