chasedupreegreggcoLONGVIEW — A Longview man is accused of attacking Gregg County sheriffs deputies and lighting a small fire in the back of a patrol vehicle while being taken to jail. According to the Longview News-Journal, officials say he’d been drinking whiskey and smoking two joints of synthetic marijuana. Chase Hayden Dupree, 23, was arrested about 2:15 a.m. Friday by deputies at the North Point RV Park in the 7500 block of U.S. 259, according to judicial records.

Deputies said Dupree smelled of alcohol and had slurred, nonsensical speech. After they placed him in a patrol vehicle, he began to physically resist and bang his head on the Plexiglas, according to the probable cause affidavit for his arrest. While trying to detain Dupree, Dupree kicked (a deputy) in the shoulder and also scratched and bit (another deputy), the document states. Dupree then reportedly proceeded to light a fire in the back of the patrol car, causing the deputies to pull over.

Deputies and Longview police officers pulled Dupree from the car to check him for contraband items. Dupree continued to fight and kick law enforcement officers while officers were putting Dupree back into (the vehicle), the probable cause reads. He was charged with two counts of assaulting a public servant, one count of resisting transport, and one count of public intoxication, according to judicial records. Dupree was held Friday on bonds totaling $11,000.
