thumb_Tyler-downtownTYLER — Several changes to Tyler’s Downtown Business District parking become effective today. Extended parking is now available at the Fair Plaza Garage at Elm Street and College Avenue, across the street from the Tyler Public Library. According to a city news release, an automated gate system will allow a driver, without a monthly agreement, to obtain a ticket upon entering the garage. The ticket should be paid at an electronic kiosk, and the “paid” ticket is inserted upon exit. The new garage has 384 parking spaces, with both monthly leased parking and daily/hourly parking available. The garage will operate Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., except on official city holidays.

Charges to park in the garage will be:
• $1 per hour with a maximum of $5 per day;
• $70 per month for a non-reserved parking space; and,
• There is a discount for any single entity purchasing 25 spaces or more (these spots will be reserved).

The rate for parking at on-street meters will increase to 50 cents per hour with a maximum time of two hours. The City of Tyler meter patrol will issue tickets for vehicles parked more than two hours in a metered spot. Meter feeding is a violation of City Ordinance Sec. 17-84g. The two hour parking restriction shall not apply for persons with disabilities and veterans with disabilities. According to the release, “We encourage everyone to experience the convenience of using the Fair Plaza Parking Garage.” For more information about the Fair Plaza Parking Garage or downtown parking in general, contact the City of Tyler Traffic Engineering Department at (903) 531‐1203.
