Suspect Arrested Following Gas Station Robbery
Posted/updated on: September 3, 2014 at 2:37 amSMITH COUNTY A suspect has been arrested in a Smith County armed robbery. Taken into custody by Tyler police was Jose Alberto Aguilar, 30, of Tyler. He was a suspect in Monday afternoons robbery of the convenience store in the 1200 block of East Northeast Loop 323. Around 11:00 Monday night, police received an anonymous tip that Aguilar was walking on Walton Road near Pearl Street. A few minutes later, he was taken into custody without incident.
He is thought to be the suspect who robbed the convenience store at knifepoint. A witness said an unidentified Hispanic man entered the store holding a knife and speaking only Spanish. The man was described as being tall with a large build, wearing a tan hat, black short-sleeved shirt and blue jeans. The suspect fled the scene with an undetermined amount of money. He left in a late-model gold Toyota four-door sedan. The temporary paper tags on the vehicle show a tag number of 95V3138 and are registered to an address in Tyler.
Aguilar was booked into the Smith County Jail on a aggravated robbery charge. His bond was set at $250,000.
