Suspect Still Sought Following Auto Burglary and Shooting

dennisdrive090414TYLER Tyler Police are continuing to search for a second suspect wanted in an auto burglary and shooting. Just before 6:30 Thursday morning, the Tyler Police Department received a call of an auto burglary in the 3200 block of Curtis. According to police, the caller indicated that they had observed two people in the neighborhood in a blue Cadillac. The passenger in the Cadillac got out of the vehicle and walked up to a pickup truck. The witness observed the Cadillac driving away. The passenger of the Cadillac broke out a window on the truck. As he was doing so, witnesses went to the pickup to contact the suspect. The suspect ran from the scene, and the witnesses followed.

Detavius CoatsWitnesses later lost sight of the suspect, but went back to their house, got in a car, and began to drive through the neighborhood. As they drove through the neighborhood they located the blue Cadillac, according to police. They began to follow the Cadillac. At one point the Cadillac got in behind the witnesses. In the area of Dennis Drive and Dinah Lane the operator of the Cadillac fired shots at the witnesses. Neither the witnesses nor the witnesses vehicle were struck by a bullet. An officer responding to the scene located a suspect who matched the description of the auto burglar. The suspect is Detavius Coats, 21, of Tyler. He has been transported to the Smith County jail and charged with burglary of a motor vehicle. The suspect driving the Cadillac is still at large. The case remains under investigation.

Crimestoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to arrests and charges filed against the suspects in this case or any felony case.
