Local community leaders, including Mayor Martin Heines and past Mayor Barbara Bass, were on hand to help celebrate, along with several Major Donor families.
According to information from park representatives, Phase II includes renovating the house next to the parking lot to include adding a large deck to the back which flows into a big lawn area. Park reps say that will accommodate inside and larger group gatherings, an additional play area with “concrete critters,” and a more quiet area set back for prayer and meditation.
According to representatives, “The Childrens Park exists to celebrate the lives of children, which includes providing wonderful opportunities for natural play, where children can explore and use their imaginations as God intended for them to do.” The park was completed by The Childrens Park of Tyler nonprofit and gifted to the city in September 2004. Park reps say they’re also celebrating 10 years of being “a community favorite.”
