tjc-logoTYLER — To ease traffic congestion and create a safer environment near two construction sites on the Tyler Junior College main campus, the City of Tyler is adding crosswalks and other safety features on Magnolia Street, between Fifth and Lake Streets. With a four-story residence hall under construction on the east side of Magnolia and the Robert M. Rogers Nursing and Health Sciences Center going up on the west, additional safety measures are needed, said Dr. Tom Johnson, TJC executive director of campus police and director of the law enforcement academy.

The city is adding: two crosswalks, a stop sign on First Street and Magnolia, and no-parking signs along the west side of Magnolia between Fifth and Lake Streets. “I would like to thank City Traffic Engineer Peter Eng for applying several traffic and pedestrian enhancements in and around First and Magnolia streets,” Johnson said. “These proactive measures will improve safety and mobility for our students, faculty and staff as TJC expands westward.”

The Rogers Nursing and Health Sciences Center opens in January 2015. The new residence hall opens in Fall 2015.
