Officials: Burglar Arrested Onsite

Charles WilsonSMITH COUNTY Smith County authorities say a burglar has been arrested at the scene of the crime. Around 9:15 Monday morning, Smith County Sheriffs Office Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a suspicious vehicle located in the 22500 block of County Road 26 near Overton, in the southeastern part of the county. The caller advised that a gray older model SUV with a trailer attached was on his neighbors property without permission. .

Sheriffs Office patrol deputies were dispatched to the location and arrived on scene as the SUV with the attached trailer was pulling out of the property, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies stopped the driver and determined that he had apparently burglarized an abandoned mobile home on the property. Scrap metal and kitchen appliances from the mobile home were visible on the trailer and in the SUV, according to officials.

The individual has been identified as Charles Wilson, 37, of Overton. Wilson was booked into the Smith County Jail on a charge of burglary of a building with a bond not immediately set. Officials say the investigation is ongoing and more details will be released as they become available.
