TxDOT sign TYLER – Here’s a quick look at work planned in the Tyler District during the Weeks of September 29 and October 6. Please be advised that this is a schedule of work being planned but it is subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforeseen issues.

SMITH COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) maintenance crews in Smith County are starting the day off Monday conducting milling operations on Spur 248 at Loop 323. Crews will then continue milling operations on State Highway 155 North from Winona to the County Line. Expect daytime lane closures, slow down and be prepared to merge in and around work zones.

GREGG COUNTY, Texas – Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) maintenance crews are working to finish milling and seal coat operations on State Highway 135 in the Kilgore area. This project runs for about a mile and a half from Old Gladewater Highway south through the traffic circle to the Gregg/Rusk County Line. It is a multi-phase project that includes doing base repair work, followed by the application of a seal coat and a hot mix overlay. The work includes reducing the roadway to one travel lane through the area. Motorists can expect delays and are encouraged to allow extra time or use alternate routes to reach their destinations. Motorists are reminded to obey all traffic control devices put in place for the safety of the traveling public and workers.

The Longview Area Office has several construction projects planned for the week.
*The contractor has started clearing between Judson Road and Airline as the Farm Road 2275 George Richey Extension construction continues. The project runs from McCann Road to U.S. Highway 259. Current work is not expected to impact traffic.
*Construction continues at the intersection of Farm Road 2208 (Alpine Road) and Smelley Road. The construction stretches less than a mile from North Loop 281 to the Gregg/Harrison County Line. The work includes widening the roadway, drainage structures, seal coat and hot mix work all in preparation for the installation of a turn lane and upgrading the flashing yellow lights to a full traffic signal. This will require daytime lane closures causing delays to the traveling public. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes during construction.
*Work on the Loop 281 railroad overpass construction continues between State Highway 31South to Ray Street in Longview and includes placing new signs and striping on new detour pavement, and conducting embankment work. This work is being conducted out of traffic so any impacts to traffic will be minimal.
*State Highway 42 widening construction from Interstate Highway 20 S to State Highway 31 in Kilgore continues with placing concrete curb and gutter and driveways. Drivers should use caution as daily traffic control will include narrow lanes in this ongoing work.
*Construction of the bridge continues on Spinks Chapman Road southwest of the
Interstate Highway 20 and State Highway 31 interchange near Kilgore. Spinks-Chapman Road is closed to through traffic between Meadows Lane and Norris Road while the bridge is under construction. Motorists must use alternative routes to reach their destinations.

ANDERSON COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) maintenance crews in Palestine are conducting three moving operations. One crew is cutting high shoulders throughout the county, while another is spraying herbicide on Loop 256 before moving to U.S. Highway 287 North from the Palestine City Limits to the Navarro County Line. A third crew is set to perform edge repair work on roadways throughout the county. Motorists should be mindful of heavy equipment on the roads during these moving work operations.

Later in the week, a maintenance crew is expected to perform drain pipe maintenance operations at driveways throughout the area. Expect intermittent lane closures during the work and be aware of flaggers and other traffic control devices such as crash attenuators – put in place to help drivers navigate safely through each of the work zones.

CHEROKEE COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) maintenance crews in Jacksonville are repairing edges on Farm Road 747 North. Rusk Maintenance continues to conduct base repairs on Farm Road 13. Look for road work signage on both jobs and use caution as flaggers are in the work zone.

HENDERSON COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews in Athens continue to perform base and edge of road repairs on various roadways throughout the county. Motorists can expect day time lane closures using flaggers for traffic control.

Elsewhere, the Farm Road 317 widening project is set to begin from Farm Road 607 to Farm Road 314 in Henderson County. Expect lane closures.

RUSK COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) maintenance crews in Henderson are performing base repair on U.S. Highway 259 S in Mt. Enterprise just south of the U.S. Highway 84 intersection on Monday and Tuesday. The Northbound outside lane will be closed overnight Monday, returning to normal traffic flow Tuesday morning. On Wednesday, base repair work will be conducted on Farm Road 225 between Farm Road 1798 and U.S. Highway 84. For the next three weeks, this roadway will be reduced to one travel lane with two-way traffic control with a pilot vehicle. Motorists are reminded to slow down and pay attention when traveling through these work zones.

Elsewhere, work on the construction project to widen State Highway 64 in Henderson continues. The project consists of widening the existing two-lane roadway and constructing a four-lane facility along with a continuous Left Turn Lane. The contractor, L.S. Equipment Co., of Henderson, will perform the majority of the work outside the existing travel lanes, thereby lessening the impact on traffic. As work progresses motorists may experience delays due to periodic daytime lane closures. The $2.1 million project got under way in August 2013 and has had some delays due to utility adjustments and other unforeseen issues, but is expected to be completed in summer 2015.

VAN ZANDT COUNTY – Texas Department of Transportation maintenance crews are doing various maintenance work on Farm Road 1805 in the Van area. The job includes edge repairs, mailbox turnout repairs and county road intersection repairs from State Highway 110 to the Van Zandt/Smith County Line. Slow down and pay attention for the safety of motorists and workers.

Work continues on several construction projects in the area:
*The contractor is preparing to pour the bridge deck on the bridge replacement project on County Road 2504 at Dry Lacy Fork, which remains closed to traffic.
*Work is also set to begin on State Highway 198 from State Highway 243 in Canton to the Kaufman County Line. Expect lane closures.

WOOD COUNTY – The contractor for the U.S. Highway 69 widening project in Mineola this week is making base repairs and installing centerline texturing from SL 564 in Mineola to Farm Road 779 in Golden. Expect lane closures in this area. Meanwhile on State Highway 154, the contractor is attending to vegetation. Use caution.
