Guilty Plea in Longview Murder Case

Cedric Bernard Carldwell2LONGVIEW – A Longview man has pleaded guilty to a murder last spring. Cedric Bernard Carldwell, 44, pleaded guilty yesterday in an appearance before 124th District Judge Alfonso Charles. A pre-sentence investigation was requested before Carldwell is sentenced next month. And the murder charge will be enhanced by a 1991 felony conviction on a prohibited weapon charge. He could get up to life in prison.

Carldwell allegedly shot and killed Huey “Bull” Gray April 14 of last year during an argument at a neighborhood party in the 400 block of Walnut Street. Carldwell was taken into custody the following day but was released on $175,000 bond. He was re-arrested 10 days later, when he was allegedly found to be in the possession of a firearm. Being a felon, one of the restrictions placed on Cardlwell after his 2007 prison release was he was not allowed to own or carry a gun.

Carldwell has an extensive history in the judicial system including a 15-year prison sentence for a 1992 attempted
