According to the Jacksonville Progress Online, Rebecca Barker, 52, waived her right to a jury trial during an Oct. 8 proceeding. Barker was charged with first-degree murder after her husband was discovered fatally shot Feb. 26 at a residence in the 9000 block of US Hwy. 84 West in Rusk.

According to the paper, a woman identified as “Rebecca” said she had shot her husband. When officers arrived at the couple’s residence, they found a deceased man sitting in a chair in the living room. The caller was identified as Rebecca Barker. Barker’s husband, 76-year-old Jerry Barker, suffered a single fatal gunshot wound.

Barker was transported to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, and subsequently charged with murder. She was arraigned Feb. 27, and is currently incarcerated in the Cherokee County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
