Justice Department on Guard against Election Fraud, Voting Rights Abuses

Bales announced Tuesday that assistant U.S. attorneys in the Eastern District of Texas have been appointed as district election officers (DEOs) for the November 4 election. The DEOs will be responsible for overseeing the Districts handling of complaints of election fraud and voting rights abuses in consultation with Justice Department Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Bales said Assistant U.S. Attorney/District Election Officer Tom Gibson can be reached by the public in Tyler at 903-590-1400. In addition, the FBI will have special agents available in each field office and resident agency throughout the country. The FBI can be reached by the public in Tyler at 903-592-4301.

Complaints about ballot access problems or discrimination can be made directly to the Civil Rights Divisions Voting Section in Washington, D.C. at 1-800-253-3931 or (202)307-2767. You can also file a complaint by email at voting.section@usdoj.gov or at http://www.justice.gov/crt/complaint/votintake/index.php by complaint form.
