brownsboromayorarrestedATHENS — The mayor of Brownsboro agreed Tuesday to a probationary contract with the state during a hearing for his December 2013 DWI arrest. Mayor Terry Frank Mills, 37, appeared Wednesday morning for a pre-trial intervention in Henderson County Court at Law No. 1. Mills agreed to a 12-month probation and 100 community service hours. He will also pay court fees. The mayor was arrested on December 18, 2013, for driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content level greater than .15. The legal limit in Texas is .08. Additionally, he was charged with unlawful carrying weapon, a class A misdemeanor.

During an interview with our news partner KETK, Mills said, “I take full responsibility for my actions. I’ve embarrassed myself and the city. The city is 100 percent behind me. I will take the required steps to fulfill the obligations of the probation and continue to look forward to working with the city and to be a productive citizen.”

According to county officials, the arrest will remain on the mayor’s record, but not as a conviction if he does not break probation. If the contract is violated, Mills will be called back to court and the contract will be terminated. A plea would then most likely be sought. The city’s website states Mills has been a peace officer since 1998, and he is currently a reserve deputy for the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office. Mills was first elected mayor of Brownsboro in 2011.
