SPCA: Cold Prompts Urgent Need for Foster Homes for Dogs

TYLER – The SPCA of East Texas desperately needs foster homes to take care of homeless puppies and adult dogs needing to be rescued from living on the streets or in deplorable living conditions at their current location, according to an SPCA news release. Officials say the SPCA is currently a foster-based adoption program and can only rescue animals as foster homes come available.
“The colder weather moving into East Texas has caused our hotline to ring off the wall and we urgently need more families to foster puppies and adult dogs for us,” explained Deborah Tittle-Dobbs, President of the SPCA of East Texas. “As of right now, we have over 50 dogs and puppies still needing to come into our program. These animals are living on the streets, in the woods, under abandoned homes or in homes unable to care for them properly. We need citizens to afford these orphans clean, warm, safe home environments until they are adopted.”
“Currently the City of Tyler and Smith County do not have a local adoption center to take in these animals so we place them in foster homes and then put them up for adoption,” said Dobbs. “If you are interested in becoming a foster family please visit our website at http://www.spcaeasttx.com and fill out a foster application or call our office at 903-596-SPCA /903-596-7722. The SPCA provides their foster families with food and all veterinary care for their foster animal.”
The SPCA of East Texas has helped hundreds of homeless and abused dogs, cats and horses find a permanent, forever family since forming in 2010. In 2013, the SPCA opened a temporary adoption center at 5318 Old Bullard Road in Tyler, which is open every Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. All animals are fully vetted after being rescued from homeless situations. The SPCA of East Texas is seeking private donations to build a regional rescue and adoption center on Grande Boulevard in Tyler.
