Since 1998, the Awards Program has recognized more than 150 projects, events and people that make a difference in Texas downtowns, according to a news release from the city of Tyler. The categories are divided based on populations of over and under 50,000 inhabitants. Winners were announced on Nov. 6 at the Presidents Awards Luncheon held in conjunction with the 2014 Texas Downtown Development and Revitalization Conference in Granbury.

The Fair Plaza Garage was awarded in the Best Public Improvement category for excellence in public projects and planning in downtowns or commercial districts. The Best Marketing Program category recognizes excellence in marketing of downtown or commercial districts. An award in that category was given to Tylers African American Heritage Trail; you can go to http://www.cityoftyler.org/Portals/0/Documents/Historic%20Preservation/AABro_all.pdf to learn more. The Best Downtown Business category recognized Regions Bank as an exceptional downtown business that positively promotes the downtown or commercial district as a destination for locals and tourists alike, and actively participates in the revitalization efforts and supports downtown promotional events.
