AFP Presents National Philanthropy Day Awards

TYLER — East Texans Friday celebrated the spirit of giving through National Philanthropy Day 2014, hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) East Texas chapter, according to an AFP news release. The annual event was held at Tyler’s Willow Brook Country Club. Margaret and James Perkins received the award for Outstanding Philanthropists, based on their legacy of giving with an emphasis on higher education in East Texas.

Jennifer Carson was honored as Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser in recognition of a dream fulfilled and still advancing through The Childrens Park of Tyler and the Children are a Gift Foundation, according to the release. The Womens Fund of Smith County received the award for Outstanding Philanthropic Organization. With more than 240 members, this giving circle has provided grants totaling approximately $686,000 since 2009.

The event honored “outstanding East Texans who give from their hearts to make their community and world a better place, noted Tim Connor, AFP East Texas president. Their stories will help inspire others to make charitable gifts in meaningful ways. According to the news release, the Association of Fundraising Professionals International is dedicated to advancing ethical and effective fundraising worldwide.
