Kevin IvyLIVINGSTON – The Big Sandy (Polk County) High School principal has been arrested on charges of having an improper relationship with a high school student. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office tells KETK that Kevin Ivy, 36, of Dallardsville, was arrested after officials were told he was sending “sexually explicit” text messages to a female high school student. Ivy resigned from the district last week. Ivy, a former Hallsville varsity boys basketball coach, was booked into the Polk County Jail on Monday on a $12,000 bond.

Big Sandy ISD Superintendent Susan Holbrook released the following statement concerning the allegations to KETK:

“On November 7, 2014, the same day on which the School District first heard of the allegation of an inappropriate relationship involving an educator with a student, the school district placed the educator on leave and removed the educator from campus and from all school activities pending the outcome of an investigation. The school district notified law enforcement and Child Protective Services and began an investigation immediately. The educator resigned employment with the district on Monday, November 10, 2014. The Big Sandy Independent School District is cooperating fully with law enforcement and with the family. The Big Sandy Independent School District has clear policies and practices to protect students and to prevent violations of individual rights. The School District regularly trains on the identification of and prevention of any harassment.”
