“Commended Students” Named at Robert E. Lee

Commended student at Lee High School-2014TYLER – Robert E. Lee High School Principal Gary Brown has announced the names of six students who have been recognized as Commended Students in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program. They are Megan Abrameit, Joshua Bice, Kali Dodez, Joseph Spellman, Rebecca Strange, and Melanie Webb. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2015 competition by taking the 2013 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).

Additionally, two students from Lee were named Outstanding Participants in the National Achievement Scholarship Program. They are Lexus Bell-Boyd and Patrick Udofia. These students scored in the top 3 percent of more than 160,000 Black Americans who requested consideration in the 2015 National Achievement Scholarship Program when they took the 2013 PSAT/NMSQT®. The National Achievement Scholarship Program was established in 1964 specifically to honor academically promising Black American high school students. The scholarship competition is conducted by National Merit Scholarship Corporation, which also conducts the National Merit Scholarship Program that is open to all U.S. high school students.
