Armed Robbery Suspect Apprehended in Smith County

arrestsmitcoTYLER — An armed robbery suspect has been taken into custody in Tyler. At approximately 12:00 noon Wednesday the Smith County Sheriffs Office received a 911 call of an armed robbery at the LaMexicana Convenience Store located in the 4800 block of County Road 376. A male entered the store, exhibited a knife to the store clerk, and demanded money, according to a news release. The robber left the store on foot after taking the money and cigarettes.

Multiple Smith County Sheriffs Office patrol deputies and detectives arrived at the location a short time later and began searching for the suspect. A short time later the suspect was located in the 4800 block of Lucky Avenue in the Morningside addition in northeast Smith County. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Smith County Sheriffs Office, where he was interviewed. He was later booked into the Smith County Jail and charged with aggravated robbery. Sheriff Larry Smith said the name of the suspect would be withheld pending an appearance before a magistrate. The investigation is continuing.
