Former Councilman Seeks Longview Mayor’s Post
Posted/updated on: January 26, 2015 at 10:51 amLONGVIEW — Former Longview City Councilman Dr. Andy Mack announced Friday he’s running for Longview mayor. KETK and the Longview News-Journal report Mack, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, served on the City Council for eight years until 2005. That’s when he left his District 4 seat on the council to run for mayor in a seven-candidate free-for-all after Mayor Murray Moore resigned. Mayor Jay Dean edged Mack in both the general election and a following runoff between the two men. Dean, who has served for 10 years, will not seek re-election due to term limit restrictions.
The announcement, which came a half a week before candidates can officially file to run in the May 9 election, makes Mack the second candidate hoping to fill the soon-to-be vacant mayoral seat. District 5 Councilman Richard Manley announced his candidacy for the post on Jan. 14, creating an upcoming election for the northwest seat as well.
