thumb_police-lights-2CHEROKEE COUNTY — Cherokee County officials seek leads in a string of burglaries committed in mid-February. On Friday, February 13, a homeowner in the 2000 block of Highway 79, west of Jacksonville, reported that his home had been broken into sometime between Wednesday, February 5, and Thursday, February 12. According to KETK, the homeowner said he was working out of town during the time the home was broken into and when he returned home several of his firearms had been stolen. There did not appear to be any forced entry to the home, and how the suspects broke in is not known at this time, according to officials. Once inside it does not appear that much was disturbed inside the house and the suspect might have been only looking for firearms. Total estimated loss is over $5,000.

On Monday, February 16, a building contractor contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report that equipment and tools had been stolen from his work site at Eagles Bluff, near Lake Palestine East. The contractor reported that sometime between Tuesday, February 3, at 6:00 p.m., and Wednesday morning when the workers to the work site, unknown suspects entered onto the work site and stole power tools that had not been taken home by the workers. Total estimated value of loss is $3,700.

On Wednesday, February 18, around 10:00 a.m., a homeowner in the 1000 block of CR 3508, near Lake Palestine East and Eagles Bluff, returned to the home after being gone for several days to discover that the home had been broken into. The homeowner reported last being at the home on Monday and noticing upon entering the home that it had been broken into. It is believed the suspects entered the home through a side carport door. Once inside the residence, the suspects stole property from inside the home and storage shed. The burglary happened between February 15th and February 18th. Total estimated loss is $5,000. You’re asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office with any information on any of the incidents.
